Chancellor’s Message

Shahzeb Shabbir Awan

Founder & Chancellor
National Institute of Technology (NIT)

It is my honour to welcome you to the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Pakistan’s first American-model university powered by Arizona State University (ASU). At its heart, NIT is more than an institution; it is a national commitment, an investment in the potential of our youth and in the future, we want Pakistan to claim.

Universities shape how a society thinks about tomorrow. They hold its aspirations, its uncertainties, and its determination to create something better. NIT was founded with this responsibility in mind. We set out to build a university that not only imparts knowledge but forms character, where learning is not confined to classrooms, but extends to how our students see themselves, their communities, and their place in a fast-changing world.

Our academic foundation is anchored in our partnership with Arizona State University, ranked among the top universities globally and recognized as the #1 university in the United States for innovation for more than a decade. This collaboration ensures that NIT’s curriculum, learning outcomes, and academic practices align with international standards from day one. It provides our students access to world-class digital learning tools and opens a direct pathway to earn a full ASU degree by completing one year at ASU, either online or on campus. This is an opportunity rarely available in the region, and it reflects our commitment to global quality and accessibility.

As a Federally Chartered University, NIT carries both privilege and responsibility. Our charter gives us the freedom to design responsive curricula, embrace innovation, and cultivate new forms of learning. But it also obligates us to uphold academic integrity, nurture diversity of thought, and ensure that every decision we make serves the growth and wellbeing of our students.

At NIT, we believe that education must prepare young people not only to succeed in their careers, but to understand the world with depth and to act within it with integrity. In an age defined by rapid technological change, we emphasize both competence and wisdom, technical skill paired with discernment, ambition balanced with empathy.

Our campus reflects this philosophy. Spread across more than ten hectares in one of Lahore’s most vibrant neighborhoods, it has been purpose-built to support creativity, collaboration, and community. It is a space where curiosity is encouraged, ideas are tested, and students are given the confidence to imagine a future larger than the one they started with.

To every student who joins NIT, my message is simple: you belong to an institution built with intention. You will be guided by faculty who bring global expertise and a deep commitment to mentorship. You will be part of a community that challenges you, supports you, and invites you to think boldly. And you will carry forward the belief that your education is not only for personal advancement, but for meaningful contribution to the world around you.

NIT is a journey of learning shaped by purpose, of discovery shaped by reflection, and of growth shaped by the conviction that each student has the ability to widen the horizon of what is possible for Pakistan and beyond.
