Pro Vice-Chancellor’s Message

Jahanzeb Burana
Pro Vice-Chancellor
National Institute of Technology (NIT)
It’s a privilege to address you as the Pro Vice-Chancellor of NIT. In this role, I commit myself to one central promise: that each student who joins our community is not merely educated, but empowered to lead in a world of change.
Our era demands much of universities. It demands agility, relevance, and connectivity. At NIT, we answer that demand by merging rigorous academic structures with real-world engagement. Students reside at the centre of this system—not as recipients, but as active participants, co-creators of their learning journey.
Through our partnership with Arizona State University (ASU), we have opened pathways that are world-class in scope and practical in consequence. Our programmes are designed to meet high global standards, with outcomes that prepare graduates for leadership—whether within Pakistan or on an international stage. At the same time, we remain deeply rooted in our local context: our communities, our industries, our nation’s needs.
In the office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor, my focus spans three interconnected priorities:
Excellence in Teaching & Learning
We will evolve curricula continuously – informed by emerging technologies, global best practices, and Pakistan’s dynamic socio-economic landscape. We will deploy teaching methods that promote inquiry, critical thinking, collaboration—and not just absorption of facts.
Student Experience & Engagement
Outside the classroom is where character is built. We will strengthen student life through leadership development, industry engagement, global exposure, and initiatives that stretch both the mind and the heart. Our aim: graduates who are competent and conscious, innovators and citizens.
Research, Innovation & Society
We will harness the full potential of our faculty and students to produce work that matters—research that solves local problems, innovation that drives enterprise, partnerships that create impact. Here at NIT, scholarship will not be isolated; it will connect to communities, economies, and futures.
Our federal charter gives us the freedom to innovate—and we will use that freedom responsibly. We will design programmes that anticipate tomorrow’s challenges. We will build collaborative, inclusive spaces where diverse ideas flourish. We will shepherd this institution to the frontier, without ever losing sight of the human values that drive education: empathy, integrity, purpose.
To every student and family reading this: know this—when you join NIT, you are entering a space of possibility. You are joining a community committed to your growth. Whether you see yourself as an entrepreneur, researcher, policy-maker, creator, change-agent—or a combination of all—this institution is designed for you. And we will walk beside you.
This is our moment. Together, we will build a university that does not just respond to the future—it helps shape it.
