Mahnoor Ali Syed
Mahnoor Syed is an economics researcher, educator, and social entrepreneur with graduate training in International Economics and Finance from Toronto Metropolitan University and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and International Development from McGill University. Her research spans financial econometrics, feminist macroeconomic theory, and international development, with graduate work including an original two-gender neoclassical growth model examining gender inequality as a structural macroeconomic distortion in Canada, and a financial econometrics study on return predictability in Bitcoin and NASDAQ using ARMA and GARCH models. She has professional experience across ESG advisory, sustainability consulting, and climate policy publishing, having held roles at Morningstar Sustainalytics, Aquantix Consulting, and as Editorial Director of Climate Insider at Resonance, where she grew the platform to tens of thousands of monthly readers.
Mahnoor is a published researcher with three peer-reviewed articles on Islamic family law, postcolonial feminist theory, and decolonial approaches to gender-based violence in South Asia, published in the Flux International Review, Chrysalis Journal at McGill University, and Maktoub Journal. In 2016 she founded Spread the Word, a nonprofit organisation focused on women’s education and health in Pakistan that continues to operate across multiple cities. Her social leadership has been recognised internationally through the Queen’s Young Leaders Award, presented by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II under the Diamond Jubilee Trust, and the Diana Award. She holds merit-based scholarships from both McGill University and Toronto Metropolitan University and has taught university-level mathematics and microeconomics to undergraduate students.
